Notorious gangster Pat Tate rises through the ranks of Essex's criminal underworld. Prequel, starring Craig Fairbrass, Terry Stone and Roland Manookian
This notorious British gangster tale may have been milked more often than a herd of prize Guernseys, but the shooting to death of three top drug dealers down a remote country lane still attracts film-makers like a cowpat does flies. This umpteenth offshoot of the Essex Boys story is a prequel to the previous Footsoldier films, focusing on the rise of one of the dealer trio, Pat Tate, played here again by hardman-of-choice Craig Fairbrass. Luridly, laughably awful, it's a thick-ear punchfest that's heavy on the old "ag" (aggro), even heavier on the effing and blinding, and light on everything else. But it's slickly made, and watchable enough if you aren't effing sick of the only gangster way still being Essex.
